Comic – A Game of Ice and Fire
The new season of Game of Thrones started last week on HBO, so I figured I’d go with that theme for this month. Here’s a special comic for all of you Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice and Fire / George R. R. Martin fans out there.

The idea for this comic actually came after I watched the first season of Game of Thrones (I was late getting to it). I began thinking it would be cool if A Song of Ice and Fire were adapted into an RPG, though at the same time lamenting the execution of such an idea would likely be as piss-poor as EA’s Lord of the Rings movie-based games. And then it hit me: how would they even put a game together for A Song of Ice and Fire. With the changing perspectives and constant deaths (if you saw the first season or have read the books, you know what I mean), by the time you’re half way through the game, your “party” might consist of five people, half of which were never with you to begin with, and all of them at levels varying from 1 to maybe 21 (and the latter is for those rare-lucky few). Needless to say, progressing through a game like that would be tedious in the extreme.
It just goes with my argument that not all books or movies make good games (and vice-versa). There’s just things about games that don’t translate well into other mediums, and games are such a limited medium in certain respects, you’d have to get very creative adapting certain things about movies and books into them. But, that probably won’t stop some schmuck from thinking these books would make a great game too, and some jobber in a tie, trying to make partner from pitching the idea to some top-brass of an otherwise successful game company…
Wait! What? It’s already been done?
