Early Swirly – New Releases This Week: 02-14-2011

This Valentine’s Day we all get the gift of fantastic new releases.  This week brings something good for all gamers.  Coming out this week is the Gears of War: Triple Pack for the Xbox 360, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together for the PSP, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation for the DS and Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds for the PS3 and Xbox 360.  Sure the Wii owners are sitting out, but that is a whole article in itself.

Most of the goodies this week are remakes and whatnot, but they are still worthwhile purchases for those who haven’t played them already.  Enjoy this stacked week of games, because it will be a while before we see another.  Comment and let us know what you plan on picking up.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation - Nintendo DS

Another Dragon Quest remake on the Nintendo DS with the same tired, old music.  Now, that’s not to say we don’t like re-releases, remakes and all that jazz, but it would be nice to see some of these games make their way to a console with a little more effort behind them (same goes for the Final Fantasy series). Nevertheless, for those of you who didn’t enter the Dragon Quest, or Dragon Warrior, series until Dragon Quest VIII: The Journey of the Cursed King, here’s your chance to catch up on those games you missed out on.

“THUD! You wake up-on the floor-disturbed by terrible dreams, and an epic battle gone horribly wrong. One Day, you stumble upon the dream world of your dreams. Shortly after, a beautiful spirit pays you a visit, bringing with her starling news. Your peaceful and quiet world is suddenly not what it seems. A great mystery surrounds these two worlds, inexplicably intertwined. Meanwhile, the evil Dread Fiend threatens to bring darkness to the land”

Gears of War: Triple Pack – Xbox 360
If you own a 360, and you don’t already own the Gears of War series, shame on you!  Shooters with good storylines are few and far between.  Gears of War is a great shooter with a great story.  Your chance for redemption is here with the Triple Pack.  Time to strap in and join the war against the Locust Horde.  We will think less of you if you don’t.  With Gears of War 3 on the way, there should be nothing holding you back.

Included in the Triple Pack: Gears of War, Gears of War II, and a whole bunch of DLC goodies for Gears of War II (Multiplayer maps and an extra bit of campaign mode called “Road to Ruin”).

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds – Playstation 3 (PS3), Xbox 360

While MvC, and many X vs Y games, may not be for everyone, and we’ve seen Ken and Cyclops duke it out twice already, there are some new interesting match-ups for fans to enjoy.  One can’t deny how nice it is to see the fighting genre continue to make its way back into the spotlight.  At the very least, this game will tide you over until Street Fighter X Tekken hits the shelves.

“After a decade of waiting, the biggest names from the Marvel Universe will clash head on with the combined might of Capcom’s best known and most feared roster of gaming characters. Powered by the mighty MT Framework engine, MARVEL® VS. CAPCOM® 3 will deliver the best ever match up of legendary fighters and no holds barred fighting action.”

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together – Playstation Portable

Once in a while a remake comes along that is worth giving a try.  Tactics Ogre is one of those remakes.  Translated by the always amazing Alexander O. Smith (click here for an exclusive interview with the Final Fantasy XII translator himself), Tactics Ogre could possibly be the next must-own PSP RPG (alongside Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Tactics). Give it a go, and enjoy the ride.

“Upon the death of the King, the ruling Bakram declared the independence of their royal city of Heim. And backed by the Holy Lodissian Empire to the north, created the Bakram-Valerian Kingdom. This left two clans to vie for supremacy in the south: the Galgastani and the Walister, however, were far outmatched, and in the span of half a year bad been brought to their knees. Thus emerged the Kingdom of Galgastan, and with it an official end to the Blood War. Victory begets peace, and for once, the battlefield of Valeria stand silent, yet none believe the calm will last.”
